Job Summary

Participate in the development, implementation and coordination of occupational therapy services including but not limited to evaluation, educational programming, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning provided for clients identified with or suspected of having disabilities/delays that interfere with their ability to perform daily living, sensory motor, visual motor, and/or fine motor tasks in compliance with standards of professional practice.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessment and intervention with the occupational therapy scope of practice.
  • Documentation of services provided as guided by Hear 2 Learn policy and those governing the discipline of occupational therapy.
  • Educate clients and caregivers on the daily support of fine motor, visual motor, and sensory motor development within a multidisciplinary and developmental model.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of occupational performance strengths and needs and to effectively provide services to the client and their caregivers.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations and develop individual education plans and individual family service plans.
  • Prioritizes and schedules work task independently.
  • Maintains accurate clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system/private pay policies.
  • Participates in department educational and research activities: may include direct supervision of occupational therapy students.
  • Attends mandatory agency staff meetings and department quarterly meetings.
  • Participates in the departments Quality Improvement Projects.

Work Context/Environment

This position is a key aspect of our quality assurance standards. It is also a key point of contact for many outside contacts and therefore spends time on phone, email, and other communications with providers and Hear 2 Learn staff. The majority of the time will be spent off-site.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy: Pre 1995
  • Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy 1995 and thereafter.
  • New York State Licensure- Occupational Therapy.
  • Initial certification by the National Board of Certification of Occupational Therapy.
  • Minimum of 1 year of licensed experience in a pediatric setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong computer and data entry skills including Word and Excel required.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills required.
  • Knowledge and ability to independently assess fine motor, visual motor, and sensory motor skills through the use of diagnostic tests and other appropriate procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to independently interpret test findings to assist in programming and in guiding and counseling the family and multidisciplinary team in the development of appropriate recommendations and treatment plans across a variety of settings.
  • High level of analytical skill in order to work independently to identify and plan for the resolutions of challenges encountered in clinical duties.
  • High level of skill in various fine motor, visual motor and sensory motor assessment procedures specific to the pediatric population.
    • Ability to use literature, evidence based research and continuing education content to make clinical decisions.
    • Ability to adapt and modify environments, equipment, and materials including assistive technology.
    • Use of evidenced based occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and clinical practice guidelines to develop intervention decisions.
    • Ability to make decisions guided by established policies.
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
    • Ability to maintain accurate and thorough records ensuring standards for consistency and patient privacy are maintained.
    • High attention to detail and accuracy.
